CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC G. BRICCIALDI
Terni
The “Giulio Briccialdi” Conservatoire of Terni, whose origins date back to the late sixteenth century with the Cathedral Chapel, and which became an institution of Higher Artistic and Musical Education on January 1, 2023, is housed in the historic Palazzo Giocosi Mariani. The sixteenth-century building contains 19 classrooms, a faculty of 39 qualified professors, and a student community of nearly 300 students. The educational offerings include first and second level academic programs, preparatory and foundation courses, enriched by innovative proposals such as flamenco guitar, accordion, and music applied to images courses, as well as open courses and workshops available to external participants. The institute also has at its disposal the Auditorium of Palazzo Primavera and the Teatro Secci, a modern facility with a capacity of approximately 350 seats, which represents the only space dedicated to musical activities in the city of Terni. The Conservatoire’s vision is that of an institution with an increasingly academic profile, characterized by a solid tradition of teaching excellence and a constant commitment to research and Third Mission activities. Particular attention is devoted to rootedness in the Umbrian territory, internationalization, and innovation in teaching methodologies. Through opportunities for growth, research, and international exchange, the “Briccialdi” trains musicians prepared to face the challenges of advanced artistic education, preserving a musical tradition that looks confidently to the future. Named after the celebrated flutist from Terni, Giulio Briccialdi, since 1893, the Conservatoire has traversed more than four centuries of uninterrupted activity: from the birth of the sixteenth-century musical Chapel to its transformation into a post-unification Music School in 1861, from accreditation as equivalent to State Conservatories in 1974 to its final establishment as a state institution in 2023.
