CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC A. SCARLATTI
Palermo
The Conservatory of Palermo, one of the oldest in Italy, is currently directed by M° Mauro Visconti. It was founded by order of the Viceroy Count De Castro between 1617 and 1618, in the fourteenth-century Church of the Santissima Annunziata, as the Orphanage of the Good Shepherd. Starting from 1721, music teaching was also introduced. Over the centuries, the Conservatory has become one of the most renowned and important in Italy. Its main goals are: to provide international-level academic standards and study programs; to give students both qualifications and practical experience; and to foster the mobility of students and teachers. In line with these objectives, the Conservatory is an active member of the AEC and holds the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education. The Conservatory offers a wide range of study programs, focusing on the educational and artistic growth of students in both classical and jazz music. More recently, a Music Therapy program has also been launched, alongside Initial Training courses, First- and Second-Level Academic programs, Doctorates, and Second-Level Master’s programs.
